Our Impact

Turning generosity into real-world change

Since our first visit to Unity Primary School, MPJ Tanzania Projects has focused on direct, practical improvements that make daily learning safer, healthier, and more sustainable for students and teachers.

Every project is funded by private donations and implemented through trusted local partners in Arusha.

There are no intermediaries.
No abstract programs.
Just real needs — met with real support.

Restrooms & Sanitation

One of the earliest and most urgent needs was proper sanitation.

With donor support, the school’s restroom facilities were completely rebuilt, including:

  • new student and teacher toilets

  • connection to the municipal sewer system

  • safe, hygienic facilities that meet local standards

This alone transformed daily conditions for both students and staff.

Desks & Classroom Furniture

Many classrooms previously lacked proper desks and seating.

Through designated donations, custom desks and chairs were built by local craftsmen and installed across multiple classrooms.

Students now have:

  • individual workspaces

  • improved posture and comfort

  • a learning environment that feels dignified and permanent.

Classroom Repairs & Facilities

Several classrooms required major structural repairs.

Donor-funded projects have included:

  • rebuilding floors

  • installing and repairing windows

  • adding ceilings for improved safety and comfort

  • renovating teacher work areas

These improvements created clean, functional spaces where learning can actually take place.

Daily Meals & Nutrition

For many students, school is the only place they receive a reliable meal.

Ongoing donor support now provides:

  • daily nutritious lunches for all students

  • consistent access to food during the school week

  • improved focus, attendance, and health

This program alone has had a visible impact on student energy and engagement.

Kitchen & Cooking Facilities

Previously, the school relied on unsafe wood stoves to prepare food.

With major donor contributions, Unity School now has:

  • a fully rebuilt kitchen

  • commercial-grade gas cooking equipment

  • safe food preparation facilities

  • ongoing funding for propane fuel

This ensures meals can be prepared legally, safely, and sustainably.

Electricity & Infrastructure

A major recent project involved complete electrification of the school.

This included:

  • installing lighting in all classrooms

  • powering administrative areas

  • enabling safe use of educational tools and equipment

Electricity has transformed both teaching conditions and basic school operations.

Clean Water Access

Thanks to a donated portable water filtration system, Unity School now has:

  • access to clean drinking water

  • reduced risk of waterborne illness

  • improved overall hygiene and safety

This system was transported from the U.S. and installed on site.

Teacher Support & Student Tuition

Donations have also been used to provide:

  • end-of-year teacher salary support

  • emergency assistance for staff

  • partial tuition support for students in need

These funds help retain dedicated teachers and keep children enrolled.

How We Measure Impact

MPJ Tanzania Projects focuses on impact that is:

  • direct — funds go straight to projects

  • local — work is implemented by Tanzanian partners

  • visible — donors can see the results

  • accountable — tracked and reported by our board

We do not fund abstract initiatives.
We fund classrooms, kitchens, desks, lights, and meals.

Our impact is measured not in reports, but in daily school life — in clean facilities, full stomachs, safe classrooms, and children who are able to learn.
