A Simple Visit That Became Something Bigger

A visit to Unity Primary School in Arusha changed everything — and led to the creation of MPJ Tanzania Projects to channel the support that followed.

Why Unity Primary School

MPJ Tanzania Projects did not begin with a master plan or a formal mission.
It began with a simple question to our safari guide, Arnold Makinda:
“Is there a school we could visit?”

Makinda suggested Unity Primary School in Arusha — a small private school that had once served hundreds of students, but had nearly collapsed after the death of its founder.

We arrived with a few supplies and modest funds. What we found instead was a community of dedicated teachers, resilient children, and needs that were impossible to ignore.

That single visit became the final day of every safari we hosted. And every group that visited asked the same question:
“How can we help — long term?”

Turning Good Intentions Into Lasting Support

MPJ Tanzania Projects was created to provide a simple, transparent way for people to support Unity School in a meaningful and accountable way.

What started informally is now a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, with a board, financial oversight, and clear reporting — allowing donations to directly fund:

• Daily school meals
• Classroom supplies and desks
• Teacher support
• Facility improvements
• Emergency needs as they arise
